I take samples from around the discharges off site and take them to the laboratory to make sure nothing potentially damaging is escaping from site and to check that all the levels are under the compliance limits from our regular.
I also run what’s called the district survey, which involves off site sampling of milk, seaweed, silt and soil. I then run these samples through the gamma spectrometer to analyse the presence and activity of radionuclides.

I get up have a cup of coffee and breakfast and drive to work, I usually spend the first hour or so checking my emails and seeing what work needs doing.
I then put on my PPE (hard hat, high vis and boots) before heading out to take samples.
I analyse samples in the lab and then write reports and circulate them. Based on results from my analysis different actions are taken to make sure we are always within compliance.
