      Hey!
Doing a PhD science becomes quite consuming so i tend to think about it a lot!
Im also a microbiologist so it really changes my way of thinking – i always sanitise and have a big awareness of how bugs spread so am quite careful with things i eat etc!

Hi Jack, excellent question! Science has helped me to become a more confident person with lots of useful skills including problem-solving, team work and communication skills. These skills are known as ‘transferable skills’ because they are useful for many different careers both inside and outside of science. Through doing science, I have also met and worked with lots of amazing people from all over the world. There are many opportunities to travel in science and I got to move to California for a year as part of my University degree!

Studying Chemistry at university had a big impact on my life. Not only did it teach me lots about science and help me to get my current job as a scientist in a Microscopy lab, it made me a more confident and independent person. Through working with other people on my course in tutorials and labs, I improved my confidence and communication skills (and made some great friends!) In my current job, as a scientist, I’m learning that it’s important to ask lots of questions. Plus I’m becoming more confident as I present results to my team and to customers! 🙂
