Hi Faye, you might hear this a lot from other scientist but I did science at school, I wasn’t the best at it and I didn’t get straight A’s but I enjoyed it. I think one of the things that inspired me to become a scientist was liking to learn new things and understanding how and why things work a certain way. Also because I wasn’t top of my class I wanted to prove that school grades aren’t everything (they help you to get into university) but essentially it’s how you apply yourself and the skills you’ve gained in order to be good at your job. You don’t need to know every last detail off by heart to perform an experiment, I’m always having to write things down and re read information, but science is all about learning and discovering new things and that inspired me to become a scientist.

I really enjoyed science at school, and at university you really get a feel for the subject and what you cna do with it. My tutor at uni inspired me to do a PhD so i can become a research scientist 🙂

I was good at maths and science at school, and when I looked around universities, I thought Chemistry sounded an interesting subject and the labs looked super cool! I did a year in industry as part of my degree and loved getting to do a job where you work in a lab, as well as doing desk/admin work. This inspired me to become a scientist when I graduated.

I was always interested in science when I was a child and Biology and Chemistry were two of my favourite subjects at school. I really enjoy learning new things and solving puzzles and I think those are the main reasons I became a scientist- every day in my job I get to discover new things!
