• Question: what looks the most intreresting under a microscope

      I don’t know about the most interesting thing – I suppose it depends on your opinion. But there are tiny plants that live in the ocean that look really cool under the microscope. Especially the ones called “diatoms” which make a lot of the oxygen we breathe. If you look them up on Google images you’ll see all the cool shapes they can be.

      To me the most interesting things to look at under the microscope are bacteria! I find it amazing that we have trillions of these tiny creatures living all around us but we can’t see them! There are many different types of bacteria that look different from each other. Some are round, some are rod shaped and some have long hair-like extensions to help them swim! You can stain these bacteria to help you see how they look in better detail which is cool 😀

      The coolest thing I’ve seen is an insect under an SEM (scanning electron microscope), as you can see incredible detail in the insect’s structure, especially the eyes and wings. Try googling ‘insect SEM image’ to see for yourself!

      An SEM uses high energy electrons (instead of a light beam like a regular microscope), which means you can see things at even higher magnifications!

      Hi Sophie, I love looking at all the little organisms that live inside pond water under a microscope. There are so many weird and strange forms of life and it is really fun to watch them all moving around doing different things. You can see some examples if you look up “Journey to the Microcosmos” on Youtube.

      Hey! I like to look at bacteria under a microscope – its fascinating that bacteria are everywhere we just cant see them! so its great to get a good look!

      Hi Sophie, good question! I think amoeba (a type of microbe) are quite fun to watch as they wiggle around and also eat by surrounding their body around the food. There are lots of videos out there that you can watch 🙂
